It all starts here...

As we walked through the metal detectors at Melbourne airport on Christmas Day, the airport officer laughed and smiled at our 1 year old son, he even let him have a “ride” on the conveyor belt that you pop your bags on to get scanned. He was a lovely man and it made the fact we were at the airport on Christmas Day a little better. That was until he asked if our son was a boy or girl. I don’t know why it bothered me, but I politely answered ‘boy’ with a smile, whilst secretly thinking under my breath ‘isn’t it obvious!’. He was wearing leggings (sure they had toucans on them), but his t-shirt was green. And then it hit me, it was probably because he was wearing his amber teething necklace.

This wasn’t the first time his amber necklace had drawn attention before. People often ask why he is wearing it and if it is a religious symbol. It’s just made me realise more and more how few people know about the wonderful benefits of amber, particularly for teething infants, but also for adults.

As new parents, or even experienced parents, we all dread that time when your babies gums start bulging, cheeks redden, they are much grislier and more clingy then usual and you wonder if you can make a bib out of a shammy to increase absorbancy for the amount of drool one tiny person can create. I’ve never been one to reach for the Panadol if I can find an alternative more natural way to address an issue, and that’s exactly how I came across the use of Baltic Amber for relief of teething pain and symptoms.

Europeans have been wearing Baltic Amber for hundreds of years (they always get the good stuff!) and whilst overtime, Amber has become most commonly associated with teething relief as a powerful natural anti-inflammatory, it also has wonderful abilities to naturally assist in a wide range of other common illnesses and complaints.

Yep that’s right! This tiny immune boosting, infection fighting, anti-inflammatory ball of resin can also help with colic, reflux, skin allergies, kidney and liver function, depression and anxiety! How amazing is that!?

So what is this amazing product I hear you saying!? Ancient sap, or to be more correct, a fossilized tree resin. The largest deposit of amber is found in the Baltic Region and dates somewhere between 30 and 90 million years old. The active product in Baltic Amber is called Succinic Acid which is a natural component of plant and animal tissue.

Amber is a pleasant warm bead and lovely to wear. It’s nice and comfortable and the babies hardly even know they have it on! Baltic amber works best by being heated by your skin allowing the release of its natural oils. For this reason wearing a necklace where possible is recommended as the best way to allow the most amount of oil to be absorbed by your skin.

As with all natural therapies, what works for some people may not for others, but what do you have to lose! My experience has been nothing but positive and we are 10 teeth down with my son and he hasn’t skipped a beat! So what are you waiting for!?
